The
probe section is about 3.25" (8.2cm) long, and is 3/4"
(2cm) in diameter when closed. When opened, the prongs spread
to a maximum of 1.7" (4.1cm) apart, which is enough of
a spread to do damage to some people (hence the need for extreme
caution). Once the desired spread is achieved, the speculum
can be locked open by turning an adjustment screw on the side
of the device.
