"What does one want when one is engaged in the sexual act? That everything around you give you its utter attention, think only of you, care only for you...every man wants to be a tyrant when he fornicates." -Philosophy in the Bedroom

Justine, or Good Conduct Well Chastised, is the book that caused Sade the most problems with the authorities in his lifetime. Justine is the book that got Sade committed to the Charenton Asylum where he was imprisoned until his death. Upon publication, Sade claimed the book was too immoral to include his name. Yet, it was a novel that he obviously thought very highly of, he dedicated it to Marie-Constance Quesnet, his companion of the last 25 years of his life. This book also contains Philosophy in the Bedroom, the novella Eugenie de Franval, an early philosphical short Dialogue between a Priest and a Dying Man, and several critical suppliments.
