The cat-eyes are surrounded by Swarovski crystal and swirling patterns of shimmering white and glitter decorate this piece from the top of the rounded head to below the nose.

This mask is modeled in the style of the beautiful cat-faced Egyptian fertility goddess “Bast.” Historically, wearing the face of a cat was thought to increase strength, courage, and confidence. The cat represents agility in both body and spirit.

The masquerade dates back to ancient Greek festivals that were thrown to honor Dionysus, the god of wine, sex, fertility, and the theatre. The practice of wearing masks and costumes was shared among both the performers and guests of the festival, and was passed from Greece to Rome, and from Rome to Venice.
